The reports continue to hit the streets with details on U.S. government spending for I.T. solutions. Alongside, we've seen a spike in relevant bid request activity.

Data center networks and storage, colocation, wide area networks, and fiber projects are but a handful of topics addressed in this analysis.

In addition to some bid data, we disclose the leading U.S. regions and federal departments. If your business provides these solutions, and you're not involved in the public sector, you may be missing a significant opportunity.

Biometrics: Industry Analysis Video Series

Security, healthcare, and technology are among the industries whereby government agencies are making investments in biometrics. Ok, so what exactly has the public sector been up to? Well, there were 647 purchase requests/RFPs last year, so something's going on.

What are some of the solutions, services, etc., being implemented? Among them are facial recognition software, identity management systems, live scan solutions, biometric testing, fingerprinting, patient-related biometric solutions, etc...

Check out this video report follow up to Anna Barnett's original blog, 'Biometrics. Government agencies interested in behavioral and physical characteristics', from back in Sep 2016. As you can forecast from reading and watching, biometrics isn't slowing down.

BidPrime: 2016 Year in Review & Look Ahead to 2017

What will you remember about the year that was, 2016? In your opinion, which are the topics that will dominate the conversations in 2017? Stephen Hetzel, our Operations Officer, and Bill Culhane, from our Marketing Team, sat down to take a glance back and Stephen pulled out his crystal ball to make predictions for 2017.

Spoiler Alerts: Particularly in regards to government purchasing, the guys discuss how much of 2016 was dominated by elections in the U.S., cyberterror, law enforcement and public safety, virtual reality and simulation, and records management and digitization.

As we look ahead to 2017, use of body worn cameras and storage of applicable data, infrastructure-related, legalization of marijuana, cyber and threat detection, drones, and artificial intelligence will be among the hot industries in the coming year.

Check out the video and let us know your take on things.

Internet of Things (IoT) are Things of Public Sector

At a weekly content development meeting earlier this week, one of the attendees brought up the idea of doing a report on the 'Internet of Things'(IoT). That suggestion was immediately met with a question from across the room, "What exactly is the Internet of Things?" Before we embark on our analysis and report on the subject, let's address that clearly important question.

There are a variety of definitions out there, but Jacob Morgan broke it down nicely in Forbes back in May 2014. As Morgan explained, "...this is the concept of basically connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other). This includes everything from cellphones, coffee makers, washing machines, headphones, lamps, wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of."

Of course, many of those items specified are common products that each one of us uses every day. Morgan got it right, "...almost anything else you can think of." Since IoT includes literally billions of products, devices, etc., and growing, the idea treks far beyond the relative basics. Consider for a second the sum of the variables of: device + on/off switch + connected to internet. Take a quick look around you.

At this moment, IoT isn't completely understood and has led to questions of risk, future applications, and even debates regarding the impact on industry, potential replacement of employees, government regulation, and others. One certainty is that the public sector is profoundly entwined in buying and deploying pertinent solutions, exploring further applications, and akin to you and I, endeavoring to grasp the enormity of this thing, "the Internet of Things".

In my role in setting up, refining, and perfecting client's accounts for businesses pursuing relationships with the public sector, I have a front row seat to the number of businesses providing IoT-type solutions and services and I see the compelling number of technology bids. With the IoT concept defined and expanse of the subject matter assured, I led a team that researched our database to determine the level of request and purchase activity by governments in the United States. Suffice it to point out, there is a lot going on!

Bid request activity for Internet of Things (IoT):

Real Estate: Industry Analysis Video Series

Did you know the U.S. public sector, meaning government agencies, military, law enforcement, education, etc., are very involved in real estate markets?

One of our teams researched and identified many 100's of requests covering a recent, one year time period. In particular, state and local agencies have been active in submitting requests/RFPs for real estate-related services, solutions, property, etc...

Among the wide variety of requests in our database, our team located solicitations for: realtor services, mortgage and loan services, land purchases and leases, housing, apartments, condominiums, land surveying, and more.

Watch the following video report for a breakdown.

Prisons & Corrections Facilities: Industry Analysis Video Series

In the United States today, there are close to 200,000 inmates in the U.S. federal prison system. In total, across all levels, there are approximately 2 million adults incarcerated in U.S. prisons, jails, and other corrections-related facilities.

We have reported a number of times on U.S. public sector investment in the corrections industry. As a matter of fact, here is Anna Barnett's report from back in April 2015.

What does it take to incarcerate millions of people a year? Every month in the U.S. there are literally 100's of prisons and corrections-related purchase requests. Agencies are soliciting and buying services, solutions, equipment, materials, construction, and more. Here's what we found.

Check out the video by clicking on the image below.
